New urbanism, a term coined two decades ago, describes mixed-use neighborhood development and sustainable communities. According to newurbanism.org, \"New urbanism promotes the creation and restoration of diverse, walkable, compact, vibrant, mixed-use communities composed of the same components as conventional development, but assembled in a more integrated fashion, in the form of complete communities.\" Stapleton, one of the country's first and finest examples of new urbanism, was established in 1995 on the site of the former Stapleton International Airport. The community, six years in the planning and developed by Forest City Enterprises, offers its approximately 12,500 residents a cohesive sense of community.
