Basement Drainage Systems

A basement drainage system is key to keeping water out of the basement. There are several types of systems, including a floor drain, French drain and sump pump.

A floor drain system is typically installed at the time of construction. The floor drain lies below the basement floor, allowing for a permanent fixture that will keep water from leaking into the house.

French drains are a common choice if you're renovating a pre-existing residence. A French drain can easily be installed from the exterior of a home, by digging a trench and installing a pipe under gravel and fabric. Once it has been installed, a French drain will work to redirect water away from the foundation of a home, solving everything from drainage problems to water runoff during a heavy rainfall.

A basement sump pump is a useful tool for keeping groundwater from entering the interior of a basement or removing the water once it has already made its way inside. A sump pump is automatically triggered to remove moisture once the water reaches a particular level.
