Broom and Utility Closet Organization

It's easy to write off a utility closet as a space for tossing everything you use to keep your otherwise organized house in order. Of course, while a broom closet is typically home to the household vacuum cleaner, cleaning products and dusting rags, it's still a closet that craves organization.

One of the simplest starting points for organizing a utility closet is to remove all of the items from the space. Once you have cleaned out the closet, separate all of the items into categories, for example all of the kitchen cleaning products and the coordinating rags will go into one pile. The simple addition of a few containers or cleaning caddies will help to organize these items, a system you can then use for each room of the home. These containers will easily slide onto shelves, keeping clutter out of the way.

Consider hanging hooks or clips onto the wall that are useful for keeping certain cleaning tools, like a broom, mop, dust pan or bucket up off the floor of a utility closet. This frees up floor space for larger items, like a vacuum cleaner or step stool.
